William "Bill" Summers Obituary

On Tuesday, March 2, William Summers III of Windsor, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away, aged 85. Bill was born in Brooklyn, NY on February 6, 1936 to William and Alice (Naughton) Summers Jr. He is survived by his wife of 61+ years Elizabeth Summers, nee Nelson, at home, brother Stuart Summers (Bee) of Oro Valley, AZ; his sister Janet Jope (Bruce) of Portland, CT; his children William Summers IV(Patty) of Spring, TX; Walter Summers (Andrea) of Manchester, CT; Wesley Summers (Susan) of New Hampton, NY; Wade Summers (Laura) of Southington, CT; grandchildren Ashley (Jake), Corey, Katelyn (Bryan), Alexandra, William V, Zachary, Nathaniel and Kieran, great-grandson Jackson and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Bill was a proud Navy veteran serving out of Boston on the ice-breaker USS Edisto. He graduated with distinction from the University of Connecticut with a BS and completed a graduate banking program from Rutgers University. He went on to work for many years in community banks throughout Connecticut before starting his own title search company and working into his 80’s. Bill was an avid golfer, playing often and still competing in leagues this past summer and was well-known at his home course of Grassmere C.C. in Enfield. Although not Catholic, Bill was also very active at the Enfield Knights of Columbus. Services will be private and memorial contributions may be made to the PGA First Tee Foundation (firsttee.org).
