Jimmy Jerome Meisner

Jimmy Jerome Meisner was born in Pueblo Colorado on July 12, 1954, to Samuel Meisner and Clara Weigel.  Jim left us on February 26, 2021 in Canon City, Colorado.  He is preceded in death by his son DuWayne Lee Meisner, Father Samuel Meisner, Mother Clara Graham, three brothers and one sister.  Jim is survived by the love of his life Jolene Meisner, Son Bryan Meisner, five grandchildren, one great grandchild, three brothers, three sisters, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, best friend Ronnie Atencio, and close personal friends.  Jim graduated from Pueblo County High School in 1972 with a gold rope for academic excellence.  Soon after graduation Jim joined the United States Air Force and served 4 years as a Radio Technician.  After his time with the United States Air Force Jim worked for Paperwork, Inc in Pueblo, Co.  In March of 2004 he started with the Colorado Dept. of Corrections.  He also dedicated much of his time volunteering for various organizations such as The Chad Whitney Memorial Foundation which held a special place in Jim’s heart.  Other organizations he volunteered for include the Orchard of Hope and the Recreation and Parks District.  Jim dedicated 20 years to the Christmas Parade of Lights.  Jim also served on the Canon City School District’s Accountability Committee for 10 years.  Jim and his lovely wife Jolene were named Canon City Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Citizens in 2014.  He was also awarded the 2017 Colorado Lions Foundation Humanitarian Award.  Being as humble as Jim was this award had to be presented to him at a City Councill meeting because he did not feel deserving of the publicity that came from receiving this award.  Jim was elected to the Canon City, City Council in 2015 and was re-elected to a second term in 2019.  He was committed to serve those who voted for him as well as those who did not vote for him.  He gave 100% of himself to the citizens of Canon City, making government transparency and fiscal responsibility his number one priority.  Jim understood what the City Council, the taxpayers and the business owners were undertaking was going to help the city grow for many generations to come.  Watching the main street transformation and the city prosper brought him great pride and joy, and he truly loved showing friends and family the rams and dinosaurs with their colorful and creative designs that were scattered all over town with one particular ram on main street being a personal favorite.  Jim loved spending time with carpentry and camping with his family.  His favorite way to end every day was enjoying the Canon City night air with his wife by his side.  Jim was a great man that will be deeply missed by all.  If Jim could leave a message behind for us all it would be to live your life with integrity and love your family with all you heart.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Tiger Dome at Canon City High School, located at 1313 College Ave.  A celebration of life for Jim’s time with us will immediately follow with a procession to Centennial Park (The Duck Park).  Food and drinks will be provided.  The services will be live streamed on Facebook.  Please visit the Harwood Cremation and Funeral Service Facebook Page for live streaming.
