Anton “Tony” Smith was born in Wadena on March 3, 1940. He came to live in Morris in 1985, first to Kooda Home and later to Heartwood Home, Prairie Community Services. He also worked at the Stevens County DAC until retiring last year.

Tony had many special people who supported him through his life’s journey. Many of these people became like a family to him, but even more important to him were his housemates, some having been with him for 30 years.  He was well known in the community and made many friends. Tony touched the hearts of every person he met. Hardly a person past Tony that wasn’t greeted with a smile, friendly word and a good handshake.

Tony loved a good cup of coffee, but mostly he loved the people that he shared the coffee with.  Of course, it was always important to have a little treat with the coffee too.

Tony also had a deep love of music. He tried new ways to play music through the years, but always went back to cassette tapes.  He loved to operate his tape recorder with a good country, gospel, or Christmas tape playing. Tony could be heard singing Christmas songs year round.

Tony was a faithful Christian and a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Morris. He had many special friends at church including his long time volunteers, Cheryl and Monroe.  His favorite time of the year was the Lenten season because he got to go to church twice a week rather than once.

Tony was one of those people that everyone wanted to be around. He was always happy and had a positive outlook. He never complained and always made those around him feel better.  One of Tony’s favorite sayings was that “something good” was going to happen.  We will all miss Tony’s presence but are so happy that something good has happened for Tony and he’s singing with the angels.

His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’ Mathew 25:23
