Edith Carolyn Harstine Obituary

Edith Carolyn (Hooper) Harstine was born in Hayesville, NC on July 30, 1927 to Ralph and Monda Hooper. She was welcomed by the loving arms of Jesus on February 24, 2021 at the age of 93 with her children by her side.

A spunky, funny, and vivacious mother, grandmother, wife and sister, Edith was a remarkable force to be reckoned with. Since she spent a good part of her career working in the fashion industry, Edith was always well put together. She loved to cook, entertain, and expressed herself through baking, music, nature and gardening. Most of all she loved her children and grandchildren. She was a long-time resident of Portage Lakes, Ohio, a member of Akron Baptist Temple and later joined The Chapel in Akron.

Edith was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Gerald Elmer Harstine; by her sisters, Doris (Ron) Roebuck, Lucille (Ray) Lance, Mary Lou (Ernie) White; and by her sister-in-law, Delores Hooper; and brother-in-law, Bill Johnson. Edith is survived by her five children, Gerry (Michelle) Harstine, Debbie (David) Newman, Cinda Harstine, David (Brenda) Harstine, and Brian (Mike Miller) Harstine. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Brian and Aaron Harstine, Alexandra, Matthew and Hannah Newman, Joshua (Courtney) Harstine, Jonathan (Abbey Morse) Harstine; brother Jim Hooper; sisters, Jean Furcsik and Joan (John) Ellis; sister-in-law, Lois Johnson; many nieces, nephews, and special family friend, Cherie Hatton.

A service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2021, at Bacher Funeral Home 3326 Manchester Road, Akron, Ohio 44319. The family will receive visitors from 10-11 AM, with the celebration of her life at 11 AM followed by a graveside service at Greenlawn Cemetery, 2580 Romig Road, Akron, Ohio 44320.

The family would like to express sincere gratitude to The Brook Assisted Living Facility of Gaylord, Michigan, Morning Pointe Green Briar Cove, Life Care Center of Collegedale and Hearth Hospice of Chattanooga for their remarkable and compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hearth Hospice, 513 Georgia Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37403.
