Norma Iris Santiago Springfield, Massachusetts Obituary

Norma Iris Santiago

The world lost a very special soul on Feb. 15, 2021, when Norma Iris Santiago Baez, born Nov.18, 1952, in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, passed away in her sleep, her death a direct contrast to the loud and boisterous life that she lived. Norma was full of love and generosity that she shared with everyone, but most especially her family. She is survived by the love of her life and father of her children Bienvenido Santiago. 4 of her 5 children Angel Santiago, Norma Ivette Santiago, Urayoan Santiago and Francisco Javier Santiago, 19 grandchildren and 6 (soon to be 8) great grandchildren. As well as her brother Hector Ortiz, her sister Ana Ivette Morales, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends that she made family. Her family was her proudest achievement, though her arroz con gandules was a close second. Norma lived her life on her own terms, be it laughing or dancing, cooking or playing, yelling or joking, she committed, and was fully and unapologetically herself, having a confidence that drew people to her and made everyone love her. She loved big in return and raised her family to do the same, valuing each other above all else. Norma was never happier than when surrounded by her family, watching and playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, feeding everyone, and observing the many lives that she was so proud to know had originated from her. To say that she will be missed is an understatement, but we can take comfort in the fact that she is no longer suffering and will be with those lost before her including her beloved son Jose Santiago. We will carry her with us always, seeing her in ourselves and in each other, in every stubborn act, sarcastic remark, laughing grandchild with her nose and big smile, knowing her love will never die, because she made sure of it. Calling hours will be Tuesday, February 23, 2021, fro 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at Puerta Del Cielo® Funeral Home, 730 State Street, Springfield, MA. Burial will be private.
