Berdena Mumford

Berdena Mumford, 89, born May 18, 1931 in Ellington, Chautauqua County, New York, passed away February 8, 2021 in Ocala, Florida. Berdena “Berdie” to her friends, started her career in Buffalo NY opening a beauty salon in the late 1950’s when women owned businesses were unusual, but her entrepreneurial spirit allowed the salon to flourish. She met Jackson “Doc” in this period and they fell in love, married in 1956 and nested in East Aurora NY. Jackson was the town chiropractor there for his career. They had one child, Monica who they raised in East Aurora. As Monica grew, Girl Scouting became Birdie’s new passion and she served the Girl Scouts in both New York and Florida for the rest of her life, leading troops, training leaders, camping and coordinating cookie booths. Berdena was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years on July 11, 2014, World War II Naval Veteran, Jackson Giles Mumford, III. She is survived by daughter, Monica Fay Mumford Harris (John) A Memorial service is scheduled for 6PM, Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at Roberts Funeral Homes, East Chapel, 2739 SE Maricamp Road, Ocala, Florida 34471, (352) 732-9944, with Chaplain Herb Agee officiating. Berdena will be placed with her beloved husband, 1PM, Thursday, March 4, 2021 at the Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, Florida 33513.
