<p> </p> <p> </p> <h3><span style="font-size:20px;"><strong>Tony J. Sanchez (aka Jose Antonio), 66, was born on May 9, 1954 and went to be with Our Lord, Jesus, on February 8, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio Geronimo (Jerry) and Lydia Sanchez; his brothers, Peter F., and Lawrence I. Sanchez; his maternal grandparents, Jose C. and Ascencion Romero; his paternal grandparents, Juan de Dios and Marina Sanchez; his mother-and father-in-law, Juan S. and Edulia Romero, and brother-in-law, Roy A. Romero. Tony is survived by his wife of 41 years, Cheryl Sanchez and daughter, Kathleen Sanchez (Los Luceros), and a nephew whom he considered a son, Wesley and Helen Martinez. He is also survived by his sister, Rose and Bernie Gonzalez (Tucson, Arizona), brother, Jerome and Valerie Sanchez (Los Luceros), sisters-in-law, Dolores (Lolly) Sanchez (Los Luceros); Mary Sanchez (San Manuel, Arizona), Ignacita and Valentine Trujillo (Lyden), Teresa Romero (Espanola), Darlene Romero (Espanola), Jane Eileen and Carey Martinez (Velarde) and Rose Romero (Lyden); brothers-in-law, Toby and Maria Romero (Velarde), James and Gary Romero (Lyden), Marvin Romero (Velarde), and Lloyd Romero (Los Luceros); aunt Pearl Sanchez, and many other relatives, and friends.</strong></span></h3> <h3><span style="font-size:20px;"><strong>Tony was a devout Catholic and practiced his faith on a daily basis. He was a member of the St. John the Baptist Parish and had a weekly devotion of Adoration to Our Lord and was a member of the San Juan de los Caballeros Council #13684 at Ohkay Owingeh, and he was also a 4th degree Knight at Assembly # 1982 in Arroyo Seco. He was also an associate member of St. John the Baptist St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was an active member of Local Union #16 and was a Laborer Foreman by trade and began his construction career with Saunders Construction, then transitioned to Davis & Associates. Davis & Associates the merged with JB Henderson Construction and he dedicated over 45 years to his trade. After retiring from Local Union #16, he began working as a security escort for Compa Industries, providing escort responsibilities at Los Alamos National Laboratory. He retired from Compa Industries in 2009 to dedicate his time to his cattle and ranch operations.</strong></span></h3> <h3><span style="font-size:20px;"><strong>Tony loved the great outdoors and worked hard and enjoyed the fruits of his labor. He served as the Chairman of the Rinconada Isla Community Ditch and took pride in ensuring that there was adequate water available during the Spring and Summer growing seasons. He was also a fellow associate and board member of the Rio Grande Cattle and Horse Growers Association where he served as a group leader for many projects, but he took great pride in knowing that he was instrumental in ensuring that multiple water tank projects were completed and would continue to provide essential water to the cattle when they grazed on the National Forest. He was a planner and always planned ahead for any of his projects. His motto was “If you are going to do a project, do it right the first time and do it safely. Safety First.” He enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing with family and friends. He loved doing Soduku and Cryptoquip puzzles daily.</strong></span></h3> <h3><span style="font-size:20px;"><strong>Please take a moment to gather your memories of Tony and how he was a part of your life, write them down and send them to me at crsanchez252@gmail.com. A rosary was held on Friday, February 26, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at St John the Baptist Parish in Ohkay Owingeh. Mass of Christian burial will follow immediately after the rosary. Tony was then be laid to rest at the Velarde Catholic Cemetery with the following pallbearers to carry Tony to his final resting place, George and Karla Garduno. Honorary pallbearers were his nieces, nephews, and Godchildren.</strong></span></h3> <h3><span style="font-size:20px;"><strong>In lieu of flowers, please consider making a Memorial Donation in Tony Sanchez's name to the American Heart Association at www2.heart.org.
