Frederick "Fred" Allan Sipchenko Calgary, Alberta Obituary

Frederick "Fred" Allan Sipchenko

"God’s finger touched him and he slept." Fred Sipchenko always offered kindness, support and unconditional love to family, friends and the fortunate others who enjoyed the precious opportunity to cross paths with him. Born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan in January 1956, Fred died of natural causes on Friday, 12 February 2021 under the excellent care and kindness of the doctors and nursing staff of Unit 66 at the South Health Campus in Calgary Alberta. Pre-deceased by parents, Walter and Marion Sipchenko, sister Claudette Baker, and brother Walter (Helen) Sipchenko. Fred will be missed by siblings, Connie (Larry) Blenkinsop, Carol White and Jim (Janice) Sipchenko, as well as his many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Fred loved to help others and clearly enjoyed their company while doing so. His empathy and understanding opened the doors and hearts of all those he shared time with. Fred’s life was punctuated by a series of transitions leading from the local farming communities which surrounded Ormiston Saskatchewan, through a 32-year career with Canada Customs that brought him from a border customs agent into French language training, on to a key role in Ottawa in customs support to NAFTA implementation, and finishing in the Calgary Customs office. Fred’s hobbies matched the breadth and diversity of the people he knew, ranging from preparing perogies, cabbage rolls, butter tarts and jams, to walking the prairie hills collecting sage to contributing his booming voice to a gathering of singers. Fred would be quick to join any conversation about cowboy culture or Robert W. Service poetry. Fred will be missed by many long term and new friends. Sadly, he must now be excused from his regular calls back to the Dirt Hills in Saskatchewan to swap jokes with his good friend Chuck Jones. Fred will be dearly missed by his loving partner of 27 years, Darlene McIntyre. Their much loved dogs (Gus and Maggie) will be helping to keep Darlene company and to remember Fred’s playful kindness. Fred always left behind broad smiles and fond memories. His ashes will be scattered in Saskatchewan. Special thank you to colleagues, neighbors, and the Mangonon family for their prayers, kind words, food and floral arrangements. We will miss you Freddie.

As I remember, Fred showed up in Ottawa wearing a cowboy hat, a burgundy suit and a string tie. He drove an old Ford, with almost 500,000 miles on it, and a trunk full of spare parts that he replenished regularly at junk yards. He also instructed me on the installation o... Continue Reading

I was so sorry to hear about this from my cousins. I haven’t had contact with Uncle Fred since my cousin David’s wedding early 2000’s, but I do have lots of childhood memories of him (I was the child) at my Aunt Connie and Uncle Larry’s farm. I only really “knew” uncle F... Continue Reading
