Shirley C. Fowles Bangor, Maine Obituary

Shirley C. Fowles

Shirley Clark Fowles Shirley Fowles, 93, died peacefully February 12, 2021 at home, surrounded and held by love. She was born on May 25, 1927 in Carmel, the daughter of Helen (Hanscom) and Charles Clark. Shirley was a lifelong teacher—from having her own nursery school, to teaching 5th grade at Zippel Elementary in Presque Isle and also Adult Education. She achieved her Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Husson College later in life—all while raising 4 kids! She and her husband, Keith, moved to Florida in 1979 and never looked back—they both loved the sunshine and warmth. She worked at the University of Central Florida for many years before she retired. She moved back to Maine at 92 and lived with her daughter, Kim, in Hermon. They took many road trips, exploring the back roads of Maine and Mum loved it! She also enjoyed going to the Brewer Riverwalk with Kim—she was able to walk a mile! She is survived by her children, Andrea, Kim, Kevin and Allison; 5 grandchildren—Dana Lovell and his wife Joann, Kyle Rideout and his wife Ashley, Kristen Fowles-Johnson and her husband Elbert, Dillon Roberts and Cady Fowles, and 6 great grandchildren—Skylar, Willow, River, Finley, Ivy and Avery. She is also survived by her sisters—Joan, Edna, Helen and Carol Jean and her brothers—Stanley and David as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Keith H. Fowles. We want to thank the Cardiac Care Unit (5th Floor) of St. Joe’s for taking wonderful care of her (and us) while she was there the week before she died. We also want to thank Kindred Hospice—we cannot express enough how loving, kind and caring they were to not only Mumma, but to us. From the depths of our hearts—thank you. There will be no service at Mum’s request.
