Nathan R. Hiatt
Nathan Robert Hiatt, age 51, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2021. Nathan was born February 11, 1970 in Canoga Park, CA to Marilyn and David Hiatt. Some of Nathan’s favorite childhood memories included his mom’s chocolate chip cookies and working on cars and home improvement projects with his dad. After graduating from El Camino Real High School, Nathan served in the Paris, France mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree from Point Loma University. Nathan worked at State Farm and, more recently, at One Beacon as a workman’s compensation claim agent. Nathan was a devoted father to his three sons; they loved all things Star Wars, Marvel and DC. He was an active Scout Master with the Boy Scouts of America and an avid runner. Nathan ran his first marathon, the LA Marathon, in 1986 with his father. Since that time, he has run numerous 5K, half, and full marathon races with Team IBProfun. Nathan felt the closest to his late father while running in the early mornings in the hills of Kern County. In December 2016, he married his long-time friend Amie Traynor. In their short time together as husband and wife, they enjoyed temple open houses, races, camping trips, concerts, and beach visits. After discovering how handy Nathan was around the house (Nathan having done so many projects with his dad), Amie always kept Nathan busy with her list of honey-do’s. The family would like to thank the many doctors, surgeons, nurses, CNA’s, first responders, etc. who cared for Nathan. Special thanks to Dr. Joe Hines from UCLA and Dr. Pederson from KMC for their exceptional care and attention to Nathan and Amie. Nathan is preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn Sturgis and father, David Hiatt. Nathan leaves behind his wife Amie, sons, Zacchary, Jacob, and Matthew, step-daughter Leora, brothers David (Sarah), Hyrum (Tonya), Mike (Kellie), and sisters Renae (Robert) and Vicki (Geoff) as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Family, friends, and others whose lives Nathan touched are invited to the Kern River Family Mortuary, 1900 North Chester Ave, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Friday, February 19, 2021 to reminisce, and support one another.
