<p>Mary Claire (Claire) McDermott (nee Livermore), 75, passed away on February 12, 2021 at her home in Lothian, Maryland. Born on July 15, 1945 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Claire is the daughter of the late Margaret (nee Williams) and William Livermore. Claire grew up in Ponca City, Oklahoma and graduated from Ponca City High School in 1963. A National Merit Scholar, she attended Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, VA, and graduated with a degree in History and Economics in 1967. While at Mary Baldwin, she met her husband, Thomas McDermott, a cadet at the Virginia Military Institute. They married at the Old Post Chapel in Fort Myer, VA in 1968. Aside from her time as a military spouse, Claire worked for the Department of Commerce and the International Trade Commission as an economist and trade negotiator, retiring in 1984 to manage her horse farm. Claire helped manage first Charles Hill Farm and then Thanksgiving Farm, breeding and racing multiple stake and allowance winners. Claire was an active member of the Marlborough Hunt Club, including service as social secretary, as well as a member of the Forest Garden Club in Upper Marlboro, MD. Claire was a long-time parishioner at Trinity Episcopal Church in Upper Marlboro, MD. In addition to managing her farm, Claire was an avid bridge player and enjoyed playing bridge with her bridge club, gardening, reading mystery novels, and spending time with her horses, cats, and chickens. Claire is survived by her husband of 53 years, Thomas; her sister Kathy Fisher (Verlin) of Westminster, CO; her sister-in-law Ann McDermott of Deale, MD; her daughter Rebecca (John Filler) and two grandsons, Riley and Seamus McDermott of Frederick, MD; her niece, Whitney Rogers (Neal) of Boulder, CO; nephews Austin Fisher (Ravan) of Denver, CO, and Warren Fisher (Rose) of New York, NY; and great niece and nephews Grace, Maddox,</p>
