Ethel Saunders

Ethel Vivian Saunders, passed away, peacefully, in her 80th year in Fergus, Ontario on February 12, 2021. A private Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at 11:00am. A link to view Ethel’s service will be available on the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home website. Burial will follow at St. Mary/ St.Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Elora. Ethel was born in Pools Cove, Newfoundland to Frank and Tryphena Marshall on July 22, 1940. She was married to Martin Saunders for 62 years and spent her time raising her family of 8 children, in Baie Verte, Newfoundland. They moved to Fergus in 2002, and then welcomed a step-daughter into the family in 2007. She enjoyed daily walks with her husband Martin, being around family, and being involved with the church at St.Josephs. Ethel enjoyed travelling around Canada with Martin and doing house renovations when the time presented itself. Ethel is survived by her husband (Martin Saunders), seven sons (Wade, Damian, Cosmas, Desmond, Clyde, Dean, Martin), daughter (Kimberly) and step daughter (Darlene Henriksen) and their significant others. Ethel was blessed with 20 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren whom she loved and cared for deeply. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to family and friends who have reached out and extended their help, kind words, along with their condolences. Additionally, the family wishes to express their gratitude to St. Joseph’s Church and Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home in Fergus for their support and direction through this difficult time. The family will announce a Celebration of Life for Ethel in upcoming months after restrictions with COVID-19 are lifted. Arrangements are entrusted with the Graham A.
