Helen Martin Maloney

Helen Martin Maloney, 91, of Easton, the beloved wife of the late John J. Maloney, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, February 12, 2021. Born in New York City on July 23, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Claude Beauford and Elizabeth Kennedy Martin. Helen was a graduate of Dominican Academy in New York City and the College of New Rochelle. She maintained lifelong friendships from both schools. Helen was a devout Catholic and never missed Sunday Mass. She was an avid gardener and a longtime member of the Easton Garden Club. She also enjoyed and had an eye for antiques, which she collected and used to make her homes welcoming and beautiful. Helen and John loved travelling, particularly their many trips to Ireland and France, as well as England and Kenya. Helen also had an avid interest in genealogy and loved uncovering information about her ancestors and sharing it with her family and friends. Helen was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of 1812. Helen is survived by her son, Peter (Virginia) of Brooklyn, NY, and daughters, Elizabeth M. Dowd (James) of Larchmont, NY, and Mary Ellen Woods (Jeffrey) of Pittsburgh, PA. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Margaret Dowd, James Nash Maloney, Abigail Dowd, Madeleine Woods, and Tess Woods. In addition to her husband of nearly 65 years, Helen was predeceased by her three infant sons, Stephen, John and Patrick, as well as her brother, John, and sister, Ann Hundt. A private Mass of Christian Burial was held at Notre Dame of Easton Church and she was buried with her husband in St. John’s Cemetery, Middle Village, Queens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be sent in her memory to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, https://www.stjude.org/donate.

I worked with Helen on both her application to DAR, then, later 1812. I got to know Helen's "family" and it was great fun. Helen and John are an unforgettable couple. A delight to know. I will miss Helen's smile. Betty Oderwald
