Myra B. Amason

Myra B. Amason, 84, of Manchester passed away Friday, February 12, 2021 at the Warm Springs Nursing Home in Warm Springs, GA. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, February 17, 2021 in the chapel of Cox Funeral Home, Manchester with Pastors Don Richards and Dan Dixon officiating. The body of Ms. Amason will lie-in-state at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 from 11:00 am – 6:00 pm for those who wish to come and pay their respects. Myra was born August 14, 1936 in Malone, Alabama, the daughter of Reuben and Lottie Birchfield. She graduated from Mellow Valley High School in Cragford, Alabama in 1954. In 1955 she married Jim Johnson and they were married 41 years at the time of his death in 1996. She later married Charles Amason in 1998. They were married 7 years at the time of his death in 2005. Myra worked as a secretary with the Meriwether County School System in the Board of Education office and Manchester High School. She later became secretary at the First United Methodist Church of Manchester for many years. She lived her retired years spending time with friends and family enjoying life. Her proudest moments were being “Magoo” to her 5 great-grandchildren. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Manchester where she served on multiple committees and was a part of her Sunday School class, “Women of The Word.” If Myra wasn’t home, you could find her traveling with the FAB 4, spending time around the pool watching her great grandchildren swim, or on the boat with family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Reuben and Lottie Birchfield, husbands Jim Johnson and Charles Amason and her brother Travis Birchfield. Survivors include her son, Mike (Cathy) Johnson of Manchester, Gayle (Greg) O’Connor of Tennessee; three grandchildren, Brandi (Matt) Dyer of Shiloh, Amber (Toby) Waddell of Woodland, Cameron (Rebekah) Johnson of Newnan; five great-grandchildren, Landen and Peyton Dyer of Shiloh, McKinley and Rylan Waddell of Woodland, and Blakely Johnson of Newnan, as well as many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the First United Methodist Church of Manchester, 206 Broad Street, Manchester, GA 31816. Cox Funeral Home, Manchester is assisting the family with arrangements.
