Dorothy Tozzi Magnolia, Ohio Obituary

Dorothy Tozzi

The Tozzi Family lost our dear Nana, but Heaven gained a beautiful angel when Dorothy Mary (Kalem) Tozzi, 93, passed away on February 9, 2021, reuniting with her beloved husband Tony after 49 years. Dorothy was more than just a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother - she was our sweet, strong, spirited matriarch who was always there for us with a smile, a laugh, a kiss, or her famous pizzelles. Dorothy was born September 12, 1927 in Canton, Ohio to the late Harry and May (Hendricks) Kalem. She attended McGregor Elementary and Minerva High School. She left school in 1944 during her senior year because she was forbidden to wear pants under her dress on a snowy day. But, showing her spirit, she earned her GED in 1977 - the same year her youngest son graduated from high school. Dorothy worked at Halter’s Pretzels in Canton. She and her friend, Helen Papoulias, dated Tozzi brothers Tony and Mike from Magnolia, and each found the love of her life. Dorothy married Anthony Tozzi Sr. on September 25, 1948. She was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church in Morges, Ohio, and the Catholic Women’s Club. She was a Cub Scout den mother and a fan of St. Edward’s basketball. She also helped her husband at Tozzi’s restaurant in Magnolia. After Tony died on Feb. 2, 1972, she focused her energy and unconditional love on helping her four sons and their families. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, George and Paul Kalem Sr.; sisters Irene (Ellis) Dick and Rose Walter; and brother-in-law Larry Felix. She is survived by her sons, Anthony (Jacqueline), Allan (Suzanne), Daniel (Jill), and James (Maureen); grandchildren Nicholas, Kathleen, Jessica, Dominique, Tony, Ryan, and Theresa (Nick Valentino); great-grandchildren Talon, Trevor, Tanessa, Lily, James, Anthony, and Nicky; sister Esther Felix; sisters-in-law Delores Kalem and Frances Pelton; brother-in-law Kenneth Walter; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and admirers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, February 16, 2021, at St. Mary’s Morges at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be mailed to St. Mary’s Morges at 748 Roswell Rd, Carrollton, OH 44615.
