Arno O. Miller

Arno O. Miller, 76, of Swatara Township, formerly of Dallas, PA, passed away Monday February 1, 2021 at his home. Born June 16, 1944, in Oberusel, Germany, he was a son of the late Reed and Carmen (Shafer) Miller. Arno earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in German from Bloomsburg State College, along with additional certification in Social Studies education, and dedicated 45 years to teaching. For 35 years, he taught German and Social Studies in the Dallas School District. After relocating to Harrisburg, he taught at the Infinity Charter School and spent ten years as a Substitute Teacher in multiple school districts in the Harrisburg area. A member of the Lancaster Liederkranz, he was actively involved in the Hobby Chor for many years. Arno was an avid golfer and an accomplished Accordion player – starting at the age of 8. He was extremely proud of having served as a PIAA Soccer official, for 35 years, in the Dallas, Wilkes Barre and Harrisburg areas and received great personal satisfaction from sharing his passion for Soccer with his children and grandchildren as they played the game. A member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Harrisburg, and the Church Council, he had also been a member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association and National Education Association. Arno is survived by his wife of 28 years, Donna L. (Derr) Miller and sons, Jeffrey A. (Rebecca) Miller, of Shavertown, PA, Brian S. (Catherine) Miller, of Ft. Collins, CO and Edward A. (Renee) Antolick, of Camp Hill. He is also survived by six grandchildren who he greatly loved, Logan, Joseph, Brandon, Nate, Kaelyn and Ellie; and a brother, Reed Rick (Kelly) Miller, of Afton, WY. A Celebration of His Life will be held on Saturday September 25, 2021 at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 420 North Progress Avenue, Harrisburg, PA 17109. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. immediately followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Joel D. Petruschke, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church.

Donna and family, We were so sorry to hear of Arno’s passing. We were neighbors in Dallas until your move to Harrisburg. We always enjoyed the wine festivals in the Poconos. Treasure wonderful memories.
