Obituary

Jerry was born November 11, 1948 in Welland, Ontario to Charles Vernon Jones and Dorothy Madeline (nee McBay). He was very community minded and would be a friend to all no matter their circumstances. Jerry was a wealth of information about the Welland community, sharp with details, and had a great sense of humour.

Jerry loved sports (the Ti-Cats, Leafs and Blue Jays); his work as a professional industrial spray painter with Kingsbury and Arvin (along with many side hustles); the Oak Centre in Welland; movies (One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, Borat); music (70s and 80s rock); his “grandanimals”: Meeko, Stella, Milo, Scarlet, and Poe; family parties, celebrations and holiday gatherings; and a proper night out having a bloody magical time with loved ones!

There were some hard times in Jerry’s life but he was always a fighter and persevered to become a strong man on his own at much too young an age. Regardless of these hardships Jerry was a caring gentleman, a survivor through his life.

Jerry is survived by his greatest accomplishments… his four wonderful kids: Shelly, Jeff, Jenn (Guilherme) Rizzoto, and Megan. He is also survived by his brothers Don, Bob, and Paul; his sister Sharon Giardino; his nephews and nieces: Ronny, Kelly, Carly, Francine, Elizabeth Ray, Elethea, Randi, Amanda, and Kyle. Jerry leaves his many special friends: Debbie Jones (the mother of his children) and Debbie’s mother Betty Ebersole, Phil Tamburino, Marie Harris and Family, Tara Kokoshki, the Clattenburg Family, the carver family, the Suess Family, the Sauders Family, John Brown and Family, Ru Tauro, Joshua McIntee (5th cousin), Nick Myciak, Chad Dunsby, Kaitlin Bronn, Dustin Ray and all of their families. Jerry was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Dorothy, and his nephews and nieces, Peter, Izzy, Michael, and Michelle.

Message from Jerry's Children:

This is a message from Jerry’s kids. Some of you may know that Dad passed away on Feb 1. He fought a long battle, and we are grateful for the final years we got to spend with him and that he is now resting peacefully.

We know that Dad would want us to celebrate his life and to be together to support and show love to each other however, covid has other plans. Post covid we plan to have a Celebration of Life and a proper send off in Welland. We are planning to plant a tree as a memorial on Merritt Island.

We know that dad meant a lot to all of his friends and family throughout the years and we encourage you to join in his Celebration of Life, another announcement will be sent out once that has been decided and arranged.

In the meantime, there will be a virtual viewing on Friday, Feb 5th, where you can pay your respects to him.

Anyone wanting to send flowers or donations please hold this for the celebration of life when we are able to be in person back in Welland. We are working on finding a local youth sports charity to put any contributions towards in dads honour.

May we think of him whenever the Ti Cats Roar and the Leafs score. Love you Dad!
