George David Towns, Sr Obituary

George David Towns Sr., 83, of Nampa, Idaho, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2021, at his home, of end stage kidney disease. George was born on March 29, 1937 to Nathaniel and Rita (Carver) Towns, in Calais, Maine, where he was raised. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the Army and served in the Korean War. He worked in the kitchen as a chef and could crack 8 eggs at a time with his huge hands. In 1960, he married Lorraine May Chapman, and they raised two children George Jr. and Pamela. George lived in various towns in Maine, also in Phoenix, Arizona, Florida, and Idaho, never staying in one place for very long. He moved back to Idaho in 2009 to live with his daughter Pamela as his health started to decline. A house painter his entire life, George loved his work. While he resided in Phoenix, he was the lead spray man for Maaco, painting cars. His hobbies included raising rabbits and showing them at Fairs. He also raised baby birds like African Greys and saltwater fish. He loved going to casinos, horse and dog races, playing poker with family and friends, fishing, hunting, yard sales, flea markets and bingo. He had a large collection of watches and pocket knives. George always had a hat on his head, a smile on his face, and a joke or funny story to tell. He was very kind and generous, always gave help to anyone in need. If he saw a complete stranger broken down on the side of the road or hitchhiking, he would stop to help. A very charismatic man, anyone who knew George liked him. After many health problems his kidneys started to fail and dementia set in. He was on dialysis for about 4 years slowly declining, losing everything that he once was, mind and body. He is survived by his son George Towns Jr. of New Mexico and daughter Pamela Dille (Lloyd) of Nampa, Idaho; a brother Charles Towns (Jessie) of Maine; 2 sisters, Melva Bradford of Florida and Ruth Ann Smith of Maine; nine grandchildren: Joey (Amber), JJ (Ashley), Kimmy (Tom), Jenny (Devin), Michelle (Colin), Jeffery, Kalee, Kenny (Karley), and Nicholas; 14 great- grandchildren: Jaden, Xander, Seavey, Molly, Alison, Paisley, Bradlee, Kenzie, Cooper, Landon, Quinn, Eli, Maximus, and Jordan. He was preceded in death by his father Nathaniel, mother Rita, sister Natalie, and wife Lorraine. The Family would like to thank the teams at DaVita Kidney Care in Nampa, Trinity Home Care & Resource, and Treasure Valley Hospice for the wonderful care they gave to George these last few years.
