Albert C Toland, Sr.

Albert C. Toland, Sr. passed away on February 1, at Care One in Lexington following a long illness. He was 85 years old. Al was born, raised and educated in Somerville. He was one of six children born to the late John and Rita Toland. Al was classic inner-city kid, who helped his family scrape out a living. He was tough, likeable, athletic, funny, passionate and street smart. He worked two jobs. During the day he did painting and wallpapering. His patience and steady hand made him very experienced at what he did, and he had a steady customer following. In the evenings he worked for John Hancock Insurance doing sales. Al was a proud member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 11, in Peabody. The AOH is one of the oldest Irish Catholic Fraternal Organizations. Al was very involved in the club and made many friendships throughout the years. He was also an avid Boston sports fan. Al was the father of Deborah Coleman & her husband James of Dracut, Albert Jr. & his wife Dolores of Bradenton, FL, Christine of Nashua, NH and her partner Dale, Beverly Hanafin & her husband John of Burlington, Thomas & his wife Ann of Woburn, Nancy Aiello & her husband Michael of Billerica and William & his wife Mary of Burlington. Grandfather of Jenna Oppenlaender, Kyle, Kaila, Alyssa and Evan Camilleri, Michelle Herrick, Jillian Toland, Andrew Robertson, Cameron & Adam Aiello, Matthew, Josie, Reese & Lance Toland. Great grandfather of Alex, Jack & Emma. Brother of Dorothy Shaw of FL, Lorraine Minchello of Medford, Bernadette Gerald of FL, Daniel of Hull and the late John. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt.128/95 Woburn side) on Sunday, Feb. 21 from Noon – 2pm. Burial to follow in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington. In lieu of flowers memorials in Al’s name may be made to Care Dimensions Hospice, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.
