On February 1st, 2021, Jacqueline (Jackie) Lillian Brown peacefully passed away at home, surrounded by the love of her family in her 35th year. Jacqueline leaves behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, understanding, intelligence, determination, athleticism, humility and fierce courage to only name a few. Jackie leaves behind her husband, Scott Brenton and family of Cambridge ON, her Parents; Peter Brown of Liverpool, UK and Donna Brown of Montreal, QC, her Siblings Jonathan and Jeffrey Brown of Montreal, QC, her “trusty” sidekick and ultrasonic fur-daughter, Victoria (“Vick”) of “parts unknown”, and of course the scores of friends, acquaintances, and strangers alike that she positively impacted over her abundant and fortuitist life. Jackie was born February 12th, 1986 in Chatham, ON after her family relocated from Quebec to Ontario. Not long after, a job opportunity brought Peter and family to Cambridge. Jacqueline began her steady ascent at an early age in both education and sport. Jackie entered her “terrible two’s” with a wide smile, an eagerness to learn, a budding passion for skating and skiing, while helping her mom daily around the house in any way she could. As Jackie grew older, her love for skating and skiing grew as fast as her skills did. She spent her early years developing a solid foundation with Preston Figure Skating and at Chicopee Ski Resort. Not long after that, the family was making frequent trips to ski in Ellicotville, NY on weekends. It was becoming apparent to Peter and Donna that Jacqueline, along with both brothers, would benefit greatly from spending more time there. Peter and Donna fulfilled a lifelong dream and built their family “Country House” in 1995. This not only provided the family with a lifetime of memories but for Jacqueline, it was a means to tap into a whole new level of skiing. Once she became a member of the Holiday Valley Freestyle Ski Team, it wasn’t long before “Downtown Jackie Brown” would become a cherished and valued member of the Freestyle ski community in Western New York. As her ski career progressed and became more serious, she made the decision to leave figure skating to focus solely on skiing. Even as skiing responsibilities and travel increased, her academic achievement never faltered. Her report cards were consistent with straight A’s while simultaneously improving her skiing at a remarkable rate. Those skills provided her with ten plus years spent competing for both the Ontario Moguls Team and Canadian National Freestyle team which took her all over the globe, competing across Canada, US, Japan, Russia, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Switzerland, and Argentina to name a few. While she retired from her sport in 2012, she continued to make her contribution to the Ontario Freestyle community by coaching and developing a new generation of freestyle skiers with the South Ontario Region Freestyle Team. She did this alongside Crystal Lee of Newmarket, ON. which was only the start of what grew to be a very treasured friendship/sisterhood. While transitioning back to “normal” life after her ski career ended, she enrolled and graduated from the Institute of Holistic Nutrition and followed that up with a Batchelor’s Degree from the University of Guelph in Nutrition and Nutraceutical Sciences. While coaching part time, going to University full time, she also worked part time hours at Fiddleheads Health Store in Cambridge where she met her beloved husband Scott. Together, Scott and Jackie became a pair unmatched, a couple to aspire to be like. They encouraged each other to be better, to believe in themselves and each other, to attain their full potential, and to live a life full of adventure and love. Their relationship was blessed with Jackie’s patience, infectious smile, easy going nature, and ability to live truly and fully in the moment. Her passion for travel along with Scott’s ignited a common interest that started in Iceland shortly after they met and took them to many beautiful places from North to South America, the Caribbean, Europe and Australia over the span of their time together. Jackie’s business career started quickly after graduating from the University of Guelph and like everything else in her life, it was the product of her consistent hard work, calculated and disciplined approach. She became an instant success as an account manager with Purity Health Products and was promoted quickly to Key Account Manager where she won the hearts and minds of her customers and co-workers alike. With everything in the universe aligned for Jackie and Scott, on February 8th 2019, Jackie received a cancer diagnosis that re-routed their direction. Faced with this daunting news and journey ahead of her, where many would struggle to see light, Jackie continued to live life gracefully, embarked on new adventures, lived in the moment and took each challenge in stride. She was nothing short of incredible. She remained steadfast in her battle not only for herself but for those around her. Jackie practiced mediation in her final years; just as she had practiced and trained most of her life to become an elite athlete, a university graduate, a valuable sales executive, a dog groomer (with one client), and a part time horticulturist and gardener. Her spirit remained whole, giving those around her the strength to be who she needed them to be and pride to be able to witness her journey. Regardless of her situation, not a moment did she come short of being the most incredible spouse and life partner, but quite frankly the best friend that anyone could have ever have asked for. She continued to do things as she always had, with thought and attention, considering others before herself, having compassion and generosity for those in need. (furry and non-furry). Unfortunately, the cancer returned in the Spring of 2020 and ultimately ran its course, but NOT once did it take her spirit. For Jackie smiled and laughed EVERY day and surrounded herself with those who mattered most as her final days came to an end. She lived each day with love in her heart, adventure in her eyes and a peace that we all admired. Jackie was the epitome of “small, but MIGHTY” right to her final moments. Her strength combined with continued support from the most incredible PSWs, Nurses, and Doctors made Jackie’s final days something that her family will never forget. The family will remain forever indebted to that team of angels that took the best care of Jackie as if she was one of their own. There are quite frankly no words available to emphasize the level of gratitude that Jackie and family have had for the tremendous care team as well as the heartwarming messages of support that have made their way to her from all over the world. At this point, due to the current public Health Crisis the family has decided against a traditional funeral service however there will be more information provided by the family over the coming weeks and months in regard to a “Celebration of Life”. In the meantime, to best honour Jackie we ask that you enjoy each and every day as she did with smiles, laughter and cherishing time spent with family and friends, day after day. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Jackie’s honour to the Cambridge Humane Society (519-623-7722) paying tribute to her love of animals. Alternatively, donations can be sent to Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto (416-813-1500) as Jackie also cared deeply about the kids and families in need of care and support.
