ROBERT L. GALLEGOS, 88, went home to Our Lord Jesus Christ on Monday, February 1, 2021. He peacefully departed his lifelong residence in Santa Cruz with his beloved wife Alice of 68 years and his children by his side sending him home. Robert was born on July 9, 1932 in El Guache to Leandro and Octavania Gallegos, the eldest brother of seven sisters and one brother. Robert was a devout Catholic which was expressed in his artistic gift as a Santero. He proudly displayed his artwork at the Santa Fe Spanish Market, galleries, art shows throughout New Mexico, and most recently at his newly established home studio gallery. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Leandro and Octavania; sister, Henrietta Alarid; brother, Odon; grandchildren, Denette, Ivan and James. He is survived by his wife, Alice; his children, Dennis & Angela, Amanda, Donald & Nina; grandchildren, Denielle & Jennifer, Dennis Jr., Jairus, Jaia, Jorinthian; great-grandson, Damian; sisters, Josephina Aguino, Ida Spagnola, Regina Archuleta, Betty Anzaldua, Alice Staley, Rosela Martinez; brothers-in-law, Ralph Alarid, Jose & Esther Vigil, Johnny King; sisters-in-law, Isabel Torres, Rose Martinez, Mary Montoya, Nora Vigil, and Olympia Vigil along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and countless dear and loved friends. Robert was very loved and well-known in the community and Northern New Mexico and will be dearly missed. Public visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz with a limited capacity of 50 people but can be streamed via

A private burial will be held at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with his grandsons serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Jeff Aguino, Andrew Alarid, granddaughter-in-law, Francine Garcia, beloved amigo, Alfonso and Merlin. The family of Robert L. Gallegos has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
