Bennettsville, SC

Mary Frances Sweatt Pate, 81, a resident of Bennetsville, SC, passed away January 28, 2021.

Frances was born June 16, 1939 in Bennettsville, SC (Marlboro County) a daughter of the late Milton Lawrence Sweatt and the late Anita Qucik Sweatt.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Douglas Stevie Pate and Michael Howard Pate; two brothers, Howard Milton Sweatt and Lawrence David Sweatt.

Frances attended Shiloh United Methodist Church and also Christian Fellowship Church in Bennettsville. She was a homemaker who loved to cook and help the shut in and enjoyed working in her garden and flowers. Frances loved spending time with her family, friends and especially loved being with her grandchildren. She was a former member of the Eastern Star. On July 5, 1958 she married Douglas Conner Pate who died March 22, 2017.

Surviving is her daughter, Phyllis Ann Pate Gentry of Winston-Salem, NC; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one great-great grandchildren; brother, Clarence (Buddy) Sweatt (Connie) of Asheboro, NC and sister, Ruth Grimsley of Lexington, NC.

A memorial graveside service will be held at a later date in Bennettsville, SC.
