Charles "Chuck" T. Hurley, Jr.

<p>Charles &ldquo;Chuck&rdquo; T. Hurley, Jr., 74, passed&nbsp; away Wednesday, January 27, 2021, at the hospital of natural causes.&nbsp; He was born April 9, 1946 to Charles T. Hurley, Sr. (Violet) and Hazel DuBree (Hank), who preceded him in death.&nbsp;</p> <p>Friends affectionately called him, &ldquo;Punky.&rdquo;&nbsp; He was a kid who grew up on South Bend&rsquo;s westside.&nbsp; He graduated from Washington High School in 1964 and IUSB in 1978.&nbsp; He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1966-1968. Chuck dedicated 21 years of his life in service to the citizens of our community as a South Bend Police Officer.&nbsp; Chuck was Chief of Police from 1984-88 and again in 2012.&nbsp; He spent 18 years on the Notre Dame Police Department.&nbsp; Chuck enjoyed the friendships made with students, faculty, and staff.&nbsp; Most important was the spiritual advice he was afforded by many friends he made with the Holy Cross priests.&nbsp;</p> <p>Chuck was a father, son, brother, and nephew.&nbsp; He was a friend to many people in all walks of life.&nbsp; Most importantly, he was a loving husband to Joan for 52 years and extremely proud of his five children and their spouses.&nbsp; Chuck is also survived by 20 grandchildren who will be doing great things in their lives.</p> <p>In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, Christ the King Catholic School, or the Congregation of Holy Cross.&nbsp;</p> <p>Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a small private funeral for only family members will be held on Monday at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at Notre Dame.&nbsp; The public is invited&nbsp;to watch the funeral mass via livestream beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, February 1, 2021 at:<a href="https://campusministry.nd.edu/mass-worship/basilica-of-the-sacred-heart/funeral-live-stream/">&nbsp;https://campusministry.nd.edu/mass-worship/basilica-of-the-sacred-heart/funeral-live-stream/</a></p> <p>Kaniewski Funeral Home, South Bend, IN is handling arrangements.&nbsp; To send online condolences, please visit www.kaniewski.com.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>

Charles “Chuck” T. Hurley, Jr., 74, passed  away Wednesday, January 27, 2021, at the hospital of natural causes.  He was born April 9, 1946 to Charles T. Hurley, Sr. (Violet) and Hazel DuBree (Hank), who preceded him in death. 

Friends affectionately called him, “Punky.”  He was a kid who grew up on South Bend’s westside.  He graduated from Washington High School in 1964 and IUSB in 1978.  He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1966-1968.
