Frederick Chapman Obituary

Affectionately known as “Freddie C”, he was the youngest sibling of the late William Sr. and Mary Chapman, born August 7, 1945, in Chicago, IL. He was baptized at Gammon Memorial Methodist Church and served the Lord at Resurrection United Methodist Church.

Freddie attended Tennyson Elementary, Marshall High School – an active and proud member of the Alumni Association – and Texas Jr. College. To know him, you experienced the warm and kind spirit he possessed, always willing to help anyone he could. He loved going to Boston, MA to visit his oldest sister Mona. His footsteps were shadowed by his nephew Gregory, who was more of a younger brother to him while growing up.

During his early years he was employed by Peoples Gas Company. He was a chartered member of the Midwest Boys Club. He was self-employed, operating a laundromat, repairing washers, dryers, furnaces, and all equipment related to the HVAC profession.

Freddie became a tennis player and travel to New York many times to see professional matches. He shared his love of the sport by teaching it and acting as an advocate to expand tennis on the westside.

Freddie was called home on January 17, 2021 and given rest for his labor.

He is survived by his son, Malik; granddaughter, Tatyona; sister, Addie Price; brother, William Chapman, Jr.; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; and a very special acknowledgment to Allen/Claudia Jakes, Sheryl Baker and all honorary pallbearers.

“I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one. I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.”
