John Emil Musyj Obituary

John Emil Musyj was born on September 23, 1946 on the family farm in the Hubbard district of Saskatchewan. He was the youngest child of Emil Musyj and Annie Musyj (nee Flinta). John attended St Stanislaus school till grade 3 then continued his education at Ituna school until grade 6. He then stayed home to help on the family farm and raised chickens. He married the love of his life Elaine (nee Sawchyn) on October 30, 1976 at Ukrainian Catholic Holy Ghost church. They lived on the family farm and for the next five winters they went to Prince George and John worked in the logging camps. They were blessed with 2 children Erica and Nolan. In 1989 the family moved to Ituna and John continued to farm near Hubbard. Between farming he also worked at building the cement grain elevator east of Ituna, K&L equipment, Safety Bath Inc., Little E Sales, seed cleaning and helping his neighbors with their farming endeavors. John passed away on January 20, 2021 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre with his family by his side. He was active with the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation – Beaver Hills, Ducks Unlimited and the Ukrainian Catholic Holy Ghost church on the Musyj Farm. John enjoyed watching and reading westerns, tractors, farming, wildlife, his cows and giving the cows scratches, the family dogs Maui, Casey and Blue, touring the countryside and catching up with family, friends and neighbors. John was easy-going, friendly, fun-loving and a quiet man till you got him warmed up. He leaves to celebrate his life his wife Elaine of 44 years, daughter Erica Musyj (Cory Zetterstrom) of Saskatoon, SK, son Nolan (Michelle) Musey and grandchildren Madison, Olivia and Jaxon of Roberts Creek, BC, his sister Gladys Smysniuk of Abbottsford, BC, mother-in-law Katie Sawchyn, sisters-in-law Anne Musey, Shirley Musyj, Doreen (Rob) Goodwin and Janice (Ed) Giesbrecht, brother-in-law Mervin (Pat) Sawchyn, numerous nieces and nephews, friends, and neighbors. John was predeceased by his parents Emil and Annie, brothers Eugene and Zenon, father-in-law William Sawchyn. Memorial donations in memory of John may be made to the Ukrainian Catholic Holy Ghost Cemetery Fund on the Musyj Farm (Box 99 Hubbard, SK S0A 1J0).
