James Alfred "Jimmy" Hess Obituary

James Alfred “Jimmy” Hess, 83 of Glennville, Georgia formerly of Frenchburg, KY went home to be with the Lord Saturday, January 23, 2021. He was born October 6, 1937 in Pikeville, KY to the late Virgil and Lurcy Layne Hess. Jimmy was a retired coal miner, former owner of Frenchburg Gas and Produce, and the owner operator of a farm for many years on Corner Ridge where he enjoyed hosting horse shows, visiting with his grandchildren and riding horses with family and friends. In his retirement years, Jimmy moved to Georgia where he enjoyed spending time with his much-loved wife Mary and sitting on the porch in the warm weather of his new home.

Jimmy was of the Old Regular Baptist Faith. His faith in Jesus as Savior over the years has served as an example to all who knew him. He never failed to say that his hope of heaven was in Jesus and His death on the cross for the sins of all. He encouraged all his family and friends who loved him not to worry about him if he “left here”. His faith was like that of a child…fully trusting in his Heavenly Father.

On January 25, 1996, Jimmy’s beloved wife Ernestine preceded him in death. They have two surviving sons, James Harold (Lisa) Hess of Pikeville, KY and Darrell Gene (Angie) Hess of Frenchburg, KY. Jimmy was also preceded in death by four siblings including Geraldine Hess (infant), Junis Hess, Ray Elmer Hess, and Imal Sue Hess Justice.

Jimmy is survived by his loving wife Mary Alice Collins Hess of Glennville, GA and her children as follows who took him in and loved him dearly: Charles (Judy) McNeely of Germany; David (Jasmine) DeLoach of Glennville, GA; Gerald DeLoach of Mooresville, NC; Timothy (Carol) DeLoach of Collins, GA; Martin (Kelly) DeLoach of Glennville, GA; Joey (Lynn) McGlashan of Fernandina Beach, FL; and Barry (Amanda) McGlashan of Glennville, GA. He is also survived by four siblings; Pauline Hess Thacker of Pikeville, KY; Jean Hess Adkins of Feds Creek, KY; Virgil Dean Hess of Kimper, KY, and Mary Marie Hess of Marion, VA. Jimmy was blessed to have the love of his surviving 26 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren, which he shared with his wife Mary. In addition, he leaves behind a host of extended family and friends who love and will miss him greatly.
