Donald Frank Garrett

Donald Frank Garrett, 96, left this world peacefully to join his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, January 23, 2021. He will be remembered as the loving husband of the late Maxine Vicory Garrett to whom he was married for 66 years. Don's memory will forever be treasured by his son, Brent (Jackie) Garrett and daughter, Melanie Elliott (Bill) all of Warner Robins; his grandchildren, Michael Elliott (Jessica) and Paul Elliott (Kelly); his great-grandchildren, Zoey and Mason; his brother, Capt. Royce Garrett (Jo) of Greensboro, NC; and four nephews and a niece. Don was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, on September 12, 1924, to the late Condon Frank Garrett and Fairy Espy Greeson. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp at the age of 17 just after the U.S. entered World War II, and served with the 315th Bomb Wing unit in Guam. He was a part of countless reconnaissance missions during his military career. Following his military service, Don moved to Jackson, MS, where he spent 40 years with School Pictures, Inc., as the Vice President of Sales. He went on to work for Olan Mills Photography for 12 years before permanently retiring and moving to Warner Robins, GA. As a Civil War historian, Don served as President of the Civil War Roundtable in Jackson, MS. He served as a member of the Mississippi Gettysburg Memorial Commission and was responsible for the design and placement of the State Monument at Gettysburg Memorial Park. Don was a life-long stamp collector and postal history enthusiast. He was also a Ham Radio Operator for over seventy years, Call Sign: W5ZNX. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Warner Robins, GA. Don will be remembered as a proud American veteran, a dedicated historian, and an inspiring, loving father and friend to all. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 26, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. EST at McCullough Funeral Home. A second visitation will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. CST at Lakewood Funeral Home, 6011 Clinton Blvd., Jackson, MS 39209, with a committal service following at 2:00 p.m. CST at Lakewood Memorial Park, 6000 Clinton Blvd., Jackson, MS, 39209, where Donald will be laid to rest. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Donald Frank Garrett to Liberty Baptist Church, 1026 Kathryn Ryals Road, Warner Robins, GA 31088.
