Cecelia A. Meyer Iowa City, Iowa Obituary

Cecelia A. Meyer

Cecelia Alice Meyer, 90, of Iowa City passed away January 19, 2021 at Briarwood Health Care Center after contracting COVID-19 just a few days before her death. To celebrate the life of Cecelia, a gathering for friends and family will be held August 7, 2021 at 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 325 Mormon Trek Blvd, Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to St. Joseph’s Indian School, PO Box 326, Chamberlain, SD, 57326. Cecelia was born on August 5, 1930 in Carroll, Iowa to Leo and Alice (Walker) Reagan. She grew up in Churdan, Iowa, where she graduated high school before attending Mt. Mercy College and The University of Iowa. While studying at the University of Iowa, she met the love of her life, Charles Henry Meyer. On September 2, 1949, Cecilia married Charles Meyer in Iowa City, where they would eventually raise their four children, Mark, Kent, Julie and Jeffrey. The couple enjoyed 21 memorable years together before he sadly passed away in 1970. Cecelia worked as an administrative assistant for The University of Iowa Oakdale Campus, working primarily in the Weeg Computer Center, where she later retired in 1992. She formed many lifelong friendships throughout her 24-year career at the University of Iowa College of Education. She moved to North Liberty in 1987, where she lived up until she moved to Briarwood Health Care Center in 2018. She was a past member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was an active member of the Christian Women’s Club. She enjoyed gardening and traveling. The only thing Cecelia loved more than being a mother was becoming a grandma and great grandma. Family meant everything to her and time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought her so much joy. Cecelia is survived by her children, Mark Meyer (Marge Wright) of Iowa City, IA, Kent Meyer (Wanetta Newberry-Meyer) of Loveland, CO, Julie Hartman of Corvallis, OR, and Jeffrey (Anita) Meyer of Grandview, MO; seven grandchildren Jennifer (Andrew) Wagner of Lisbon, IA, Dena (John) Drach of Denver, CO, Hanna Meyer of Chicago, IL, Leslie Meyer (Joao Rodriguez) of Portugal, Naomi (Joe) Bristow of Corvallis, OR, Justin Hartman of Corvallis, OR, and Kevin Arjoon of Grandview, MO; four great-grandchildren Bailey and Keegan Wagner, and Soren and Miles Drach; her sister Regina Netherton of Pagosa Springs, CO, and many extended family members. Cecelia was one of the most determined and caring women I have ever know. Her sincere love of others was written all over her face and one could hear it in her voice every time she spoke at a meeting.

I was sorry to hear from Carol Meyer Henning, that Aunt Cecelia had passed away. I always enjoyed her visit when she came to see my Mother Phyllis Meyer. I would like to know when you have the burial in Churdan, as I would like to attend. Linda Meyer Yungbluth
