Margaret Brimmer West Hartford, Connecticut Obituary

Margaret Brimmer

Margaret (Peggy) Brimmer passed away peacefully on January 21, 2021. She was 92 years old. Peggy was born in Peabody, MA on May 21, 1928, the daughter of Margaret and David Emmett. She grew up in Peabody , and was surrounded by her many loving Aunts and a loving brother Fred. She learned to play the piano and with her bubbly personality was a class favorite in high school. She subsequently attended Burdett Business School after high school graduation. At 14 years old she met the man who was to be the love of her life. His name was Bill Brimmer, who was 17 years old and lived in Farmington, CT. A parish priest arranged a visit to Bill's family in CT. Peggy and her best friend Connie were accompanied by her parish priest, and they took a train ride south. That is where she met Bill, who asked if they could begin corresponding. After Bill served in WW II, he attended college in MA. Their relationship blossomed, and they were married on September 4, 1948. Their first child Bill Jr. was born in Salem. MA, and the following year they relocated to Hartford, CT where they eventually had 11 children (8 sons and 3 daughters). They lived happily on Kenyon St. in Hartford for 60 years. Bill passed away in 2008 after 60 years of wedded bliss. They were both very active volunteers at St. Joseph Cathedral Parish, where they also served as Eucharistic Ministers. Many a hungry homeless person benefited from the sandwiches Peggy made for St. Joseph's. She was a true giver to everyone fortunate enough to be in her presence. Peggy is survived by all her children; Bill (Barbara) of Newtown, CT, Bruce (Connie) of Glen Falls, NY, Brian (Pam) of Preston, CT, Deborah Catolane (Tom) of Bolton, CT, Barry (Pamela) of Bloomfield, CT, Brad (Annemarie) of Bloomfield, CT, Tom (Ellen) of Storrs, CT, Peggy Rollins of Garland, ME, Susan Gabriel of Simsbury, CT, Tim (Amy) of Gansevoort, NY and Bob of Hartford, CT. She also leaves 29 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. Funeral and Burial Services are private. Donations should be made to: St. Vincent de Paul Society, P.O. Box 398, Middletown, CT 06457. Mrs. Brimmer was always very welcoming to my special needs daughter when we attended Mass at the cathedral. May she rest in peace in the arms of Our Lord and may her family be comforted by Faith.
