Paul Jackson Perrett was born November 22, 1935 in Crenshaw County Alabama,
the oldest child of A.D. & Ruby Perrett. He passed away Wednesday, January 20,
2021 after a brief illness. He leaves behind a lifetime legacy of dedication and
service to his God, community and family. He is desperately missed by those he
left behind, but solace is found knowing he is now resting peacefully in the arms
of his Lord, who he loved so dearly.
Paul proudly served in the United States Air Force. He retired from AT&T after a
successful management career that spanned many years and states. After
retirement, Paul continuously sought out and tirelessly championed every
opportunity likely to improve the lives of those in his community or his church. He
was elected as County Commissioner for Coosa County. After serving as Assistant
Fire Chief of the Real Island Volunteer Fire Department for two decades, he put
his vision, experience and drive to work as the Chairman of the Board for the
Equality Fire Department.
Paul was preceded in death by his first wife, Donna Bell and is survived by his wife
Dianne (McGilvary). His brother-in-law, Doug Buckles, also recently preceded him
in death. He is survived by his daughters Pauley Perrett and Andrea (Carlton)
Odom, step-daughter, Suzie (Mickey) Sanders, step-son, Thomas (Mandy)
McGilvary, his sister, Carolyn Buckles, brother John (Sherry) Perrett.
Grandchildren include Lauren (Chris Ratzel) Henry, William Carey Jr., Ben
Sammons, Mary Calvert (Josh) Hurd, Katie McGilvary, Walker McGilvary, and
Matthew McGilvary in addition to many dearly loved nieces, nephews and
extended family.
Services will be held Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Gassett Funeral Home, 204
East Charles Avenue, Wetumpka, Alabama. Visitation will begin at noon, followed
by a 1 pm Memorial Service officiated by Dr. Jeff Fuller. A graveside service will
follow at New Harmony Church, 60 Real Island Road, Equality, Alabama 36026
Having just lost such a special man to Covid, the family respectfully asks everyone
carefully consider attendance, and those who join us wear masks and keep a safe
distance.
