Jim Bouma Lynden, Washington Obituary

Jim Bouma

James “Jim” Bouma went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 19, 2021. Jim is known for his love of God, love of life, dependability, sense of humor, loving nature, generosity, and approachability, but many know him as the Morning Show co-host on Praise 106.5. Jim was born on April 22, 1959 in Newark, New Jersey to parents Del and Ginny (Koellhoffer) Bouma. As a little boy the family moved to Florida where he graduated from Bradenton Christian School. Jim went on to Dordt College, graduating with a degree in Communications. While attending Dordt he met the love of his life, Sharon De Waard. They were married June 17, 1981 at Mt. View Christian Reformed Church in Lynden, Washington. Together they have two sons. Jim began his radio career at KLYN in Lynden in 1981. After a short while Jim and Sharon moved to Seattle to work at sister station, KCMS, but after 18 months they moved back to Lynden. Jim became the Morning Show co-host at Praise 106.5 and often joked, “I have a face for radio.” Family was everything to Jim. He was his kids’ number one fan, always there to support and cheer them on. He looked for any opportunity to spend time with them. A few of his favorites were taking his grandkids crabbing, fishing, on coffee dates, and reading books to them. Jim enjoyed hunting, basketball, archery, camping, road trips, and helping his kids with special projects. Every Friday afternoon you would find Jim and Sharon at Woods Coffee for their weekly coffee date. Jim will be dearly missed by his wife Sharon, son Hunter (Aimee) Bouma, grandchildren Canyon, Wyatt, Silas, and Millie; son Chase (Samantha) Bouma, grandchildren Clarke, Talon, and one more on the way, brother Walter; and numerous friends and PRAISE 106.5 listeners. Jim is preceded in death by his parents. You are invited for visitation and viewing at Gillies Funeral Home on Friday evening, January 22, 2021 from 6 to 8 p.m. A private graveside service will be held at Monumenta Cemetery on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 10:00 a.m., followed by a “Praise of Life” service at Mt. View Christian Reformed Church at 11:00 a.m. We invite you to join us for the “Praise of Life” service, if you are unable to attend, you may join us via live stream at https://www.facebook.com/GilliesFuneralHomeAndCremationServices. The family has suggested memorial contributions may be made in honor of Jim to Praise 106.5. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Gillies Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
