Nancy Jane Rogers Sudbury, Ontario Obituary

Nancy Jane Rogers

Nancy Jane Rogers (nee Chisholm) March 24, 1937 – January 20, 2021 With profound sadness we announce the passing of Nancy Jane, our loving wife, mother, sister and friend, on January 20, 2021 at the age of 83. She passed peacefully with family by her side. Her early years, spent in Kirkland Lake with sisters Laurie, Dorothy, Jean and Carole, formed her love of nature, rocks and the boreal forests of Northern Ontario. She loved to travel and see the world. Her teenage years were spent exploring her east coast roots in Cape Breton and at St. Joseph’s Convent in Mabou. After receiving a BSc degree from St. Francis Xavier University in 1957, the only woman with a geology degree, and a degree in teaching from the University of British Columbia, she began her world travels through Europe and the middle East. Her teaching career began in Dawson Creek. Following this sojourn to the north east of BC she moved her classroom to Lockerby Composite and Lively District Secondary schools in Sudbury where she met and fell in love with her husband, Bob Rogers, on the slopes of Onaping Ski Hill. Together, they had three children, Colin, Sean and Sheila (Scott MacRae). She spent a lifetime enjoying the out of doors, be it on the ski slopes, picking blueberries or hiking on the trails of the Lake Laurentian Conservation Area. She and Bob, and sometimes the kids, travelled to many parts of the world; North and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. She was a good friend to many, especially the ladies of the book, bridge and curling clubs. The September canoe trips, in Northern Ontario and Quebec with her fellow lady paddlers, were a highlight for many years. A special thanks to the nurses and doctors at Health Sciences North this past week, where Nancy was treated with understanding, respect and kindness by all. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Nancy’s life will follow post COVID-19. In Nancy’s honour, please donate online to the Nickel District Conservation Foundation : by clicking here .. Arrangements entrusted to Sudbury Park Lawn Cremation Services.
