Katherine Ann Gilliam Walters passed away Sunday, January 17, 2021 from complications of Alzheimer’s in Taylorville. Kathy married Larry Lee Walters in 1968. He preceded her in death in 2000. She earned her master’s degree in education at SIUC and taught at Golconda Grade school for 32 years. She also volunteered at Not-So-New and the Pope County Historical Society Museum. She was a member to Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and Retired Teachers. Kathy enjoyed genealogy, scrapbooking, quilting, puzzles and gardening. She also enjoyed many “Sister Weekends” trips to many states with her 4 sisters. Kathy leaves behind sisters, Patti Ovca of Taylorville, Peggy Bunyar and Nancy Gilliam from Glendale Heights, and Judy Volkmann from Hanover Park. She also leaves behind two nieces, Jennifer Volkmann and Jillian Vos; a great nephew, Brennan; and great niece, Emma. In lieu of flowers, please make a memory donation to Alzheimer’s or the Pope County Historical Society Museum through Aly Funeral Home. A private family service will be held in Golconda Friday, January 22, 2021, and a public “Celebration of Life” will be held later in summer or fall.
