Donald Shields Obituary

Donald Brady Shields was born on March 17, 1933 Bloomington, Indiana to Brady and Mary (Hendricks) Shields. The family would move to Michigan where Donald would graduate from high school in 1951.  He would go on to attend Wayne State University where he would receive an associate degree. After attending school, he was inducted into the US Army.  He would be honorably discharged in 1955 at with the rank of Sergeant. During his time in the military, he served on the Honor Guard and Color Guard and received the Expert Infantryman’s Badge. He would also meet Gwen Wray through church.  The two would be married on December 18, 1955 in Warren, Michigan and would soon welcome two children, Gary and Kevin.  For most his working life Donald worked as a Salesman for the food industry. In his spare time Donald loved the outdoors.  He enjoyed four-wheeling, panning for gold, and metal detecting. While hiking he would take the opportunity to do rock hunting and mushroom hunting.  He was also a faithful Christian.  He was incredibly involved in church, whether it was helping out or as a worship leader.  Donald sang bass and would form groups to sing gospel music whenever they moved to a new area. Donald and Gwen would move to Lebanon, Oregon in the mid 90’s and became charter members of Liberty Baptist Church.  On January 12, 2021 Donald passed away in Lebanon, Oregon surrounded by family.  He was preceded in passing by his parents, Brady and Mary; and Son, Gary.  He is survived by, his loving wife of 67 years, Gwen; Son, Kevin (Deborah Ross) Shields; daughter in law, Neva Shields; grandchildren, Brady, Stephanie, Rachel, Jena and Travis; Great-grandchildren, Avery, Emily, Kurtis and Fiona; sisters in law Marti Pitts and Joyce Bell.
