<p><span style="font-size:16px;"><strong>John Alian Hert, 87, our loving father and grandfather passed away on January 19, 2021. He was born on July 27, 1933 in Saluda, S.C. to the late Cole Blease Hurt, Sr. and Christine Mitchell Hurt. He was predeceased by his wife, the love of his life, Sally Minor Hert. He talked about his Sally every day. We are sure Sally was standing there waiting for him as he entered Heaven. We are comforted in knowing that they are together again. He is survived by his sons: Ben Hert and Roger Hert (Darlye); his granddaughters: Lindsay Hert and Morgan Coleman (Rob). He is also survived by his sisters; Peggy Duhamel, Linda Risinger, Glinda Gunter (Robert) and his brothers: Ronald Hurt (Sarah) and Philip Hurt (Carolyn). He is survived by many loving nieces and nephews. John was pre-deceased by his daughter-in-law, Judy Hert and his siblings; Alden Crapps, Cole Blease Hurt Jr. and Russell Hurt.</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:16px;"><strong>John served in the US Army during the Korean War era. John, Sally and the boys made Cayce S.C. their home. He ran a retail pharmacy before he began a long career with the City of Cayce. John had many roles in his tenure with the city. His last role was Director of Community Services. John was known for his selfless commitment to helping those in need. When he retired, he was known for providing transportation to doctors&rsquo; appointments, taking groceries to someone that was sick and numerous acts of love for his friends and community. John was a member of Broadacres Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school, served as a Deacon and did anything his church needed. He had many church prayer lists next to his favorite chair. He prayed for every person on it each day. He loved his church family. John and Sally had two great loves. One was their mission work with World Changers. They loved every project because they met lifelong friends and knew they were helping someone stay in their home. Even after John&rsquo;s bad accident at one of the World Changer projects, he still stayed involved as long as he could. Their other love was watching Lindsay and Morgan play softball and soccer. John and Sally put many miles on their van driving to games and tournaments from the time the girls started playing until they finished their college careers. Nothing stood in the way of time with their girls. Graveside services will be at 1:00 pm Thursday, January 21, 2021, at Celestial Memorial Gardens, 3111 Delree Road, West Columbia. Memorials may be sent to: Broadacres Baptist Church, 2350 Taylor Road, Cayce, SC, or to the charity of your choice.
