James Melvin Hankins, Sr. passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021. He was born September 11, 1932 in Leatherwood, VA to the late Lawrence and Lizzie Eanes Hankins. Melvin served his country honorably in the United States Army, from February 1951 to February 1954 in the Korean Conflict. He worked at American Furniture of Martinsville for 61 years. He also was a founding member of the Brosville Volunteer Fire Department. He is survived by his daughter, Jessica “Punkin” Hankins; son, James Melvin Hankins, Jr; 3 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Melvin was predeceased by his daughter, Wanda Lynn Wilson; and four sisters and three brothers. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Danville Memorial Gardens, with Pastor Cabel Cobbs officiating. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made the Brosville VFD, 11912 Martinsville Hwy, Danville, VA 24541.
