Coy Jones

On the morning of July 4th, 1938 in Person County, N.C., Coy Jones was born the second son of the late Earlie Thomas and Selria L. Jones. After the death of his parents his beloved sister, Dora “Sis” Yancey and her husband Doris Andrew Yancey opened their doors to Coy and other Siblings to keep the family together. Family meant everything to Coy. Brother Coy accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and joined Red Mountain Baptist Church in Rougemont N.C. After he met the love of his life, the late Tewiller Henderson Jones, in 1971 he became an active member at Good Tidings Chapel at 876 Estes St. Durham, N.C. where the Pastor at that time was his sister-n-law the late Reverend Rosanna Reams. He was a man of many hats at the church and he wore them well. Member of the choir, a door watchman, just to name a few. “Mr. Coy” as the Cook Rd. neighborhood would call him was a believer in the bringing all children to the House of the Lord so he would make double trips making sure everybody could get there. Brother Coy worked for Bobby Roberts Construction Company for Many Years. He worked at Nutred Tire Company as the “Tire Man” on Foster St. Durham NC until he retired. Coy was preceded in death by one brother, Alfred Jones and five sisters, Dora “Sis” Yancey (Doris), Georgia Mae Lyons, Thompson, Augusta J. Daye, Ella G. Cooper (Bill) and Lessie J. Daye (Norman) He leaves to cherish his memories, one brother, Tony Jones (Linda Jones); one daughter, Phyllis Jones; three sons, Michael Jones, Dennis Jones, and Bryant Jones all of Durham N.C.; grandchildren, Quashaunta Jones, Marcellus Glover (Shakela Glover), Dalvin Glover, Zhane’ Jones, Bryant Jones Jr. all of Durham, NC; three great-grands Jakirri LeCoy, Imani Miller and Halo Glover; A host of Nieces, great nieces, nephews, great-nephews. Coy was also “Pops” to many, Godfather to many, a great father-in-law to some and granddaddy to so many, more than we could name, you know who you are, and you all were special in his hearts. He was “Uncle Coy” to all.
