Arline Heutel Obituary

Heutel, Arline “Jean” (nee Werner) September 24, 1930—January 17, 2021 A life-long resident of Crestwood, MO, Jean passed peacefully at her home with her family by her side. She will be lovingly remembered by her family, her church family and her community. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Jake, of 54 years and her parents Robert and Bessie Werner. She was a loving mother to three sons: Robert J, Jeffrey (Laura) and Gregg (Lisa) and proud Mema to five grandchildren: Kyle, Grant, Carly, Maddie and Christian, as well as a dear sister-in-law, aunt and great aunt. Jean lived in her home for 67 years, next door to where she was born and raised. She was a graduate of Kirkwood high school and an active, faithful member of St. Lucas UCC, where she met her best friend, Jake Heutel, in her confirmation class. She and Jake were married at St. Lucas on October 31, 1953. Jean did accounting work for Southwestern Bell and other local businesses while raising a family, teaching Sunday school and filling countless other volunteer roles at her church home and as a member of the Lindbergh Mother’s Club. She and Jake were active in the St. Lucas Couples Club and Ambassadors, where they continued many childhood friendships as well as making new ones. Jean also was a member of the Sappington-Concord Historical Society, later serving on the board. Until recently, Jean could still be found volunteering in the kitchen at St. Lucas. Cooking and serving at Fish Fries, Chicken Dinners, Lenten Meals and for Vacation Bible School, alongside her parents and later her children and grandchildren was one of her greatest joys. She continued to cook for her family, hosting Sunday dinners long into her 80s. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth and kindness to all who knew her. Services: Private graveside service Saturday, January 23 at St. Lucas Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Lucas Perpetual Endowment Fund.
