William D. Metz

William D. Metz Dec. 9, 1941 - Jan. 15, 2021 William D. Metz, 79, of Hollidaysburg, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday. He was born in Pontiac, Mich., son of the late William C. and Esther L. (Gummo) Metz. On July 7, 1962, he married his childhood sweetheart and love of his life, Sharon L. Barr. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Sharon; two children: William R. (Heidi) of Hollidaysburg and Lorie A. Bechtel (Todd) of Curryville; four grandchildren: William R. (Carrie), Courtney Metz, Kelsey Strum ( Nickolas), and Nicholas Bechtel; two great-grandsons: Avery and Kylar Metz; his sister, Gloria Becker, brother, Lenny Metz (Nadine) of Hollidaysburg; special sister-in- law, Susan Chew; brothers-in-law, Bud Barr (Margie) and Ken Barr (Jackie); several special nieces and nephews; and his aunt in New York, Doris Kasprzyk. Bill graduated from Hollidaysburg High School, class of 1960, and retired from Berwind Railway as a supervisor in 2003. At the age of 18, he bought himself a hammer and helped build the new West Loop Missionary Church where he was a faithful member and served the Lord on the Board of Trustees for many years. Bill was a Godly example to his family, friends, and all he met. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and his two special great grandsons. He taught them all fishing secrets and how to be kind and respectful to others. He loved woodworking and gave away many of his lamps, shelves, and tables to his family and friends. A gentle soul with a kind heart, he journeyed quietly through life, never thinking of himself, but always making sure his loved ones were safe and secure. He enjoyed going out to eat with his wife and always made the waitresses smile and let them know they were doing a good job. He knew many of them by name and over time, became their friends. He had a special gift of compassion and generosity to all. All services will be privately held at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place in Alto Reste Park. Arrangements are in care of The Good Funeral Home Inc. <div id="boxcast-widget-william-metz-service-jte3gepx0g99xfj778sk"></div><script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8">(function(d, s, c, o) {var js = d.createElement(s), fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];var h = (('https:' == document.location.protocol) ?
