Judson Kincheloe Mitchell

Judson Kincheloe Mitchell, of Wellington, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at the age of 66. He was born the son of Jack Churchill and Jeanne (Kincheloe) Mitchell on May 23, 1954 in Wichita, Kansas. Jud attended schools locally and graduated from Wellington High School in 1972. He then went on to play football for the University of Kansas Jayhawks and was a three year lettermen (1974-1976). Following college, he moved to Arizona where he was employed as a Tennis Pro for the local country club. Jud was a gifted athlete and remained active in numerous sports including running, tennis, swimming, baseball, basketball, biking and golfing to name a few. In the late 1970's, he started Sumner Communications in Wellington, Kansas with his father and brother and the company remains operated by the Mitchell family to this day. Jud was a man of great Christian faith who passionately ministered to people at all walks of life. His ministry included playing piano and guitar as well. He was an endlessly positive person that intentionally offered encouragement everywhere he went. Above all, he was a devoted father to his three daughters and took every opportunity to sow into their lives and be present for their endeavors. Survivors include his daughters: Sarah Jeanne Mitchell of Wellington, Kansas, Elizabeth Belle Mitchell of Kansas City, Kansas and Grace Kincheloe Mitchell of Wellington, Kansas; his wife of 22 years and mother of 3 daughters, Cathy Mitchell of Wichita, Kansas; niece, Juliann Maurer of Jacksonville, Florida; nephews, Jay Jack Mitchell of Lawrence, Kansas; nephew, Jordan Mitchell of Lawrence and step-mother, Peggy Mitchell of Sun City, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Jeanne Mitchell and brother, Jackson Mitchell. There will be two opportunities to pay final respects. A viewing will be held at the Cornejo Funeral Home from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Friday, January 22, 2021. A visitation with his family will be held at Wellington Free Will Baptist Church from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday evening, January 22, 2021. Funeral services for Jud will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 23, 2021 in the Wellington Free Will Baptist Church, 802 East 16th Street, Wellington, Kansas. Interment will follow at Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Wellington, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be given in his name to the Wellington Free Will Baptist Church or the Wellington Humane Society, PO Box 494, Wellington, Kansas 67152.
