Herbert Eyring Turley

Dr. Herbert Eyring Turley was born February 21, 1926, in Colonia Dublan, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Dr. Henry Eyring and Louise Turley. Herbert died April 25, 2016, in San Antonio, Texas, at 90 years young. Herbert and his wife Margaret lived in the Boerne area from 1961 through 1966. They returned to Boerne in 1983. Herbert is survived by his wife, Margaret Pool Turley; sisters, Anne Anderson and husband Wally of La Cresenta, CA, Patricia Bryner and husband Conrad of Provo, UT, and Martha Louise Myers and husband Doug of Mission Viejo, CA; daughter, Barbara Turley Sosa of Boerne; sons, Hal Turley and wife Launa of Dallas, Dr. Keith Turley and wife Janis of Houston, and Bruce Turley and wife Kaye of Round Rock, TX; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents in 1997 and his son-in-law, Lloyd Sosa, April 19, 2016, who was married to his daughter Barbara Turley Sosa. Herbert graduated from Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas (Texas A&M University) after serving as a Marine in World War II on the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid. While at Texas A&M, Herb played on the football team as offensive guard and place kicker and as a freshman at 17 years old, was part of the famous 'Kiddie Corp' that played in the 1944 Orange Bowl. After graduating from A&M, Herb graduated in 1950 from Texas Chiropractic College in San Antonio, Texas, and joined his father, Dr. Henry Eyring Turley, at his San Antonio chiropractic practice. He also taught at TCC a few years after graduation. Herbert served in many leadership positions of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints over the last 67 years, including Bishop and counselor in the San Antonio Stake Presidency. He has affected the lives of thousands of people through his service both professionally and through his church leadership, but none more than the example and leadership he gave to his family. Herbert's funeral will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints across from Boerne High School on Friday, April 29, 2016. The viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the service starting at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park in San Antonio.
