Nellie Jane Mickey "Nell" Boles

Nellie Jane Mickey “Nell” Boles, of Winston-Salem, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2021, at the age of 106, at Brookridge Retirement Home. Nell was born on May 4, 1914 in Boonville, North Carolina, to Evan Columbus and Nancy Agnes Wall Mickey. She was the oldest member of Highland Presbyterian Church and she loved her Sunday School, the Present Word. She embraced life with a strong faith and loving heart, reaching out to many in need. She worked years for P.H. Hanes Knitting Company. After retirement she enjoyed cooking for her family, caring for her family and friends, and playing duplicate bridge. Nell, “Mommy Boles” to her grandchildren, was preceded in death by her husband, Lindsay Gray Boles, of 53 years; her sisters, Earlee Davis, Anna Mae Wallace, Polly Clodfelter; and brothers, Joy, Everett, and Algie Mickey. She is survived by her three children, Barbara Ann Key (O.V.), Bobby Gray Boles (Jane), and Mickey Wayne Boles (Katy), seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. A private graveside service is scheduled. In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully requests that memorials be sent to Highland Presbyterian Church, Memorial Fund, at 2380 Cloverdale Avenue, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or Brookridge Retirement Center, Employee’s Assistance Fund, 1199 Hayes Forest Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
