  Dale F. Gelsthorpe, 85, of Streator passed away Friday, January 15, 2021 at 7:35 P.M. at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Florida.

  Funeral services will be at 11:30 A.M. Monday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home in Streator.  Fr. Ryan Mattingly will officiate.

  Visitation will be from 2-5 P.M. Sunday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.

  Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Streator.  Full military rites will be conducted by members of the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492.  Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Clink Hawk, Eric Gelsthorpe, Pete Williamson, Dave Finney, Matt Almeda, Joe Hilton and Dylan Kovach.  Honorary pallbearers will be the great grandchildren; and George Benning, Doug Harris, Russ Martin and Bill Stewart.

  Born July 20, 1935 in Peoria, he was the son of Lloyd and Marjey (Baker) Gelsthorpe.  He married Joyce Murray on September 20, 1958 at Immaculate Conception Church, Streator.

  He is survived by his wife, Joyce Gelsthorpe of Streator; daughters, Candi (Brad) Hawk of Ottawa, Char Richards of Streator; sons, Ray (Janet) Gelsthorpe of Streator, Dale Gelsthorpe of Streator and Rick Gelsthorpe of Streator; grandchildren, Jamie (Pete) Williamson of Streator, Kristie (Dave) Finney of Streator, Kari (Joe) Hilton of Ottawa, Clint (Stephanie) Hawk of Ottawa, Cassie (Matt) Almeda of Ottawa, Eric Gelsthorpe of Streator, Kaylee Gelsthorpe of Streator, Kiegan Gelsthorpe of Streator and Dylan (Samantha) Kovach of Plainfield; 10 great grandchildren and one due in July; and a sister, Marjey (Duane) Smith of Streator.

  He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Patricia Harsha and a brother, Jack Gelsthorpe.

  Raised in the Streator area, Dale attended St. Mary’s Grade School and Streator High School in the class of 1953.

  He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict from 1953-1956

  He was a member of the Teamsters Union for over 40 years working as a truck driver for Cephas Williams, Vernon Henry and retiring from Hatzer Construction in Streator.

  He was a member of the former Immaculate Conception Church, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492 serving as past Commander and the Streator Moose Lodge.

  Dale and his wife Joyce enjoyed spending their winters in Bradenton Florida for the last 22 years.  He enjoyed golfing and playing cards.  He was an avid Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan as well.  Dale loved all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren very much.  He would never miss a game or activity if they could help it.  He will be greatly missed by his loving family.
