Robert "Bob" Lowell Blubaugh, Sr. Obituary

Robert Lowell “Bob” Blubaugh, Sr., 80, of Westminster, died Friday, January 15, 2021, at the Dove House of pneumonia.  Born December 8, 1940 in Cumberland, Maryland, he was the son of the late Lester Blubaugh, Sr. and Helen Bender Blubaugh.  He was the loving husband of the late Alice Diane Speicher Blubaugh, who passed away on April 30, 2014.

Before retiring he was a Master Plumber for State Mechanical Contractors. He was a 1958 graduate of Westminster High School, where he played several sports and led the soccer team in scoring as a senior. He served for two years in the United States Navy, mainly aboard the USS Lake Champlain aircraft carrier, notably a part of the recovery of astronaut Alan Shepard after the first manned space flight. He was a charter member of Wakefield Valley Golf Club, enthusiastically playing for decades in the couples league, the men’s league and the Ham-Am. He was a longtime member of the Westminster Elks service club. He was an avid sports fans who played many years for the Church of the Ascension softball team, represented Westminster in the reality sports TV show “Almost Anything Goes,” enjoyed watching his grandchildren compete and closely followed the Baltimore professional sports teams. He lived most of his life in Westminster and was above all else a selfless family man.

He is survived by son and daughter-in-law Robert L. Blubaugh, Jr. and wife Margaret of Westminster; daughter and son-in-law Melissa Diane Moshang and husband Bryant of Westminster; grandchildren Braden, Mia and Miranda Moshang and Gillian and Colleen Blubaugh; brothers Lester Blubaugh, Jr. and wife Delores of Eldersburg and Galen Blubaugh and wife Donna of Westminster, and sister-in-laws Carol Blubaugh of Westminster, Mary Elizabeth Gillin of Havertown, Pa., and Jean Tracey of Taneytown as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Marden Blubaugh.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Deacon Charles Barnhart officiating.  Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
