Robert James Whisman Obituary

Robert J. Whisman was born in Vancouver, Washington on September 14th, 1925; the son of Harvey J. Whisman and Mary O. Whisman. He was educated in the Vancouver School District, starting out in a two room country school and graduated from Vancouver High School in 1942. He received an Associate of Arts degree from Clark College and attended Washington State University, the University of Portland, and the University of Washington school of Law. He served in the Navy during World War II and participated in the invasion of Okinawa. He commenced his career in the title insurance industry in 1947 and was transferred to Alaska in 1963 where he was affiliated with Alaska Title Guaranty Company until his retirement in 1987. He was one of the founding members of the Alaska Land Title Association and served as its Executive Secretary until his resignation in 2000. He is survived by his wife of 67 years Shirley Reed Whisman, sons James P Whisman, John R. Whisman and wife Judith C. Whisman, daughter Catherine Diehl-Robbins and husband Everett G. He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. At his request, no funeral service will be held with private interment at the Fort Richardson National Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Arthur S. Eash, Charles E. Homan, Timothy J. Hurley, Michael W. Price, Michael C. Renfro, and Richard L. Baumer.
