Antonio Perez
<p>On Wednesday, January 13, 2021, Antonio Perez, loving husband, father of three and grandfather of seven, passed away at the age of 91.<br /> <br /> Tony was born on October 17, 1929, in San Jose, Texas (near Linn) to Basilio and Magdalena (Casas) Perez. He grew up in Edinburg, Texas where he attended elementary and secondary school. He served as a corporal during the Korean War (1952-1954) with the 821st Engineer Aviation Battalion of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers SCARWAF. He received a Bachelor's in Business Administration (1951) and Master’s in Education (1956) from Texas A&I University, Kingsville, TX, and a Doctorate of Education in School Administration and Supervision from the University of Houston (1975.) He served as an educator for 38 years: 10 years with Raymondville ISD and 28 years with Corpus Christi ISD. On December 26, 1954, he married the love of his life, Alicia Salinas of Raymondville, Texas. Tony and Alicia raised their three children, Antonio Edwardo (Ed), Zonia Nela, and Zelda Melissa, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Tony’s grandchildren were his pride and joy.<br /> <br /> Tony had a passion for traveling, frequently visiting his children and grandchildren. Tony and Alicia traveled the US, to Mexico, Central and South America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Tony was a Eucharistic Minister at Corpus Christi Cathedral, a member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem, and the Knights of Columbus. Tony enjoyed socializing with friends, a good beer or margarita, gardening, fishing, and taking evening walks with Alicia along Ocean Drive. Tony was known for his kind heart, gentle spirit, and absolute adoration of his wife Alicia.<br /> <br /> Tony was preceded in death by his mother and father; his sister, Eustolia; and his brothers, Basilio and Ismael. He is survived by his wife, Alicia; his three children, Ed Perez (Lisa), Zonia Smith (Gary) and Zelda Shute (Bill); his grandchildren, Jameson and Jackson Ammenheuser, Dean, Nina, and Will Shute, and Luke and Rachel Perez, his brother, Isidro Perez (Oralia); and sister, Alvessa Perez; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren.<br /> <br /> We are planning a celebration of his life at a future date when it is safe for all to gather. For now, a virtual funeral service will be held on January 18, 2021.
