Ray C. Dawson

Ray C. Dawson, 76, of Decatur passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Huntsville Hospital. A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at Mount Hope Methodist Cemetery with Bro. Jason Greene officiating. Lawrence Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Born on June 18, 1944 to the late William and Julia Ann Bell Dawson, Ray was one of 12 children. Ray loved his family and was a hero to many.

Survivors include his wife of almost 60 years, June Masterson Dawson; children, Tracy McGee, Vincent Dawson (Trish), and Renee NeSmith (Mackey); grandchildren, Matthew McGee, Kristin Stewart (Drew), Vincent Christopher Dawson, and Kasey Maze (Matt); three great-grandchildren, Caroline and Tegan Stewart and Marley Maze; sister, Ruby Richlinski; brother, Homer Gene Dawson; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Ray was preceded in death by his son, William “Geno” Dawson, his parents; William and Julia Ann Bell Dawson, seven brothers; Clarence Dawson, Howard Dawson, Bobby Dawson, Dewitt Dawson, Donald Dawson, Pride Dawson and Charlie Campbell and two sisters; Shirley Willingham and Marie Askew.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

The family extends special thanks to Bill “WO” Mears for his brotherly friendship.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or a favorite charity.
