Clarence Joseph Lewis Sr. 84 passed away January 10th. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy Lewis Sr. and Pearl Stewart-Lewis, daughters; Jessica Ann Marks, Tracy Lyn Howard, and Joyce Ann Marks, brothers; Thomas Mouton and Raymond Lewis, sister; Margaret Marie Lewis. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Sheridan Marks-Lewis, sons; Clarence Joseph Lewis Jr. (Tarsha), William John Lewis (Gianni), daughter; Priscilla Marie Lewis, brothers; Leroy Lewis, and Leo Mouton Sr, sisters; Bobbie Knighton and Miranda Thomas, grandchildren; Ebonie, Shanice, Devin, Johnathan, Jeremy, Shirley Perry (Calvin), thirty great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Clarence was a 1955 graduate of Hebert High School in Beaumont where he played football, basketball, and baseball. He was a sports enthusiast and loved coaching youth baseball, and cheering on his favorite football team (Dallas Cowboys). Clarence had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and cooking for his family and friends on his pit. He was a devout Christian and active Catholic all his life. Clarence joined the Knights of Peter Claver (Beaumont) at the age of eighteen, until he joined the Knights of Columbus in 1972 for a total of 66 years. He served as the Grand Knight (Council 5232), and held other offices in the 3rd degree (La Porte). He joined the 4th degree (Council 3700) while serving in various offices. Clarence sang in the Choir and served as a Eucharistic Minister. His vocational career spanned thirty-five years. He worked twenty-five years for United Texas Transmission Co., from which he retired. He also worked for LaPorte ISD and retied after over 12 years of service. Clarence has a gift for inspiring and motivating those around him through his random acts of kindness. "This is an everyday hero. When you talk of someone making a difference in people's lives, Clarence Lewis has.” He loved Theatre and was a in the cast of Big River in Deer Park. He will be missed by all who loved and knew him. Services for Clarence will be, Rosary and Visitation 6-8 PM Friday January 15, at the Clayton Funeral Home, 201 S. 3rd La Porte, Texas, and Funeral Mass 10:00 AM Saturday, January 16, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 816 Park Dr. La Porte, Texas, with Father Tony Castro officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery, in Pasadena, Texas.
