Jack B. Blair, 90, of West Newton, formerly of Washington Township, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2021, in Juniper Village Assisted Living, Forest Hills. Born July 30, 1930 in Vandergrift, he was the son of the late Oscar Tabor and Dora (Fink) Blair, Sr. Jack was a 1948 graduate of Washington Township High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh. He served our country as a cryptographer in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Jack lived most of his life in Washington Township. He was employed as accountant at Allegheny Ludlum in Brackenridge for many years, retiring in 1991. Jack was a member of Poke Run Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Ruling Elder for several years. He was a life member of the 78th P.V.I. Company F. Civil War Reenactment Group of Freeport. This was a passion for Jack, and he was able to participate in the filming of the 1993 film Gettysburg. Additional memberships include the John T. Crawford Camp, and the Sons of Union Veterans. He was an avid reader and enjoyed genealogy. Jack had a lifelong love of music and dancing and especially a good party, greeting everyone with a huge smile, usually having “a little bit of everything” when confronted with dessert options (especially his daughter’s sour cherry pie!). His endless kindness and generosity extended beyond his family and touched many. He will be greatly missed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor L. (Stewart) Blair, who passed away on May 14, 2004; and his brothers, Charles L. Blair, and Oscar Tabor Blair, Jr. Jack is survived by his daughter, Connie D. (fiancé- Jim Sever) Blair of West Newton; son, Kevin D. (Ana) Blair of Sisters, OR; granddaughter, Tiffany A. (Tim) Stewart of Los Angeles, CA; grandsons, Kyle C. Blair of Columbus, OH, Logan K. Blair of Davis, CA; and a great grandson, Jack Stewart of Los Angeles, CA. Friends will be received in the Curran-Shaffer Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 100 Owens View Ave., Apollo on Saturday, January 16, 2021 from 1 p.m. until the committal service at 3 p.m. in the funeral home. Following the committal service, military honors will be accorded by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard. A Celebration Of Life honoring Jack will be announced for a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jack’s memory to the Eleanor L. Blair Memorial Fund, c/o Poke Run Presbyterian Church, 1091 Poke Run Church Road, Apollo, PA 15613, or to the Apollo Cemetery Restoration Fund c/o Apollo Lions Club, PO Box 215, Apollo, PA 15613.
