Billy Eugene Barnhart

Mr. Billy Eugene Barnhart, age 74, of Honaker, Virginia went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday (January 13, 2021) in a Johnson City, Tennessee hospital. Born September 28, 1946 in Russell County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Roby Charles and Beatrice McGlothlin Barnhart. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country from 1963-1968. A disabled coal miner, he had formerly been employed at Island Creek VP#1. He was a proud member of the UMWA #1509 for forty-five years and a member of VFW Post #9864 of Lebanon. He was a wonderful, precious man who enjoyed life and his family. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed, but God has a precious and dear Angel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Owens, and one brother, Lawrence Park Barnhart. Survivors include his wife of fifty-two years, Thelma Chatham Barnhart of the home; four children, Tina Barnhart, Roby Barnhart, David Barnhart, and Chris Barnhart and fiancée, Katie Tilley; five grandchildren, Lakota Rasnake, Keelee Rasnake, Austin Barnhart, Autumn Barnhart, and Easton Barnhart; three sisters, Mary Holley, Agnes Stoops, and Cathy Jones; sister-in-law, Donna Barnhart; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Mike Sage, Rev. Edward Tiller, and Rev. Steve Ray officiating. Interment will follow in the McGlothlin Cemetery on Big A Mountain, Virginia. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 9864 of Lebanon, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Adam Barnhart, Anthony Jones, Eddie Stoops, Mike Bare, Greg Chatham, and Logan Chatham. The family will receive friends on Sunday at 1 PM at the Honaker Funeral Home. Due to COVID restrictions mandated by the governor, a mask is required. For those unable or uncomfortable attending, the funeral service will be livestreamed on our Facebook page as well as our webpage.
